The Mercedes-AMG GT family: The essence of Driving Performance

Continuous expansion of the model portfolio since September 2014, with a current total of six series-production vehicles (four Coupés and two Roadsters) plus two customer sport racing cars, AMG GT3 and AMG GT4. The AMG GT Concept study provides a foretaste of the further course of development as a four-door #amggt series-production vehicle.

Engine: 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine in four output ratings from 350 kW (476 hp) to 430 kW (585 hp) with peak torque from 630 Nm to 700 Nm. Compact design, spontaneous response, tractive power right from the low rev range as a result of inside turbochargers ("hot inside V"). Sports car engine in the V8 family with dry sump lubrication for low engine position and reliable oil supply even at extreme levels of lateral acceleration. Assembled and mounted in the hand-finishing section in Affalterbach according to the "One Man - One Engine" principle.

Transmission: AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed transmission at the rear axle.

Data: Fuel consumption, combined 11.4-9.3 l/100 km, CO2 emissions, combined 259-216 g/km, 0-100 km/h in 3.6-4.0 seconds, Vmax 302-318 km/h.

Transaxle: Basic layout with front mid-engine, transmission at rear axle, connected via torsionally rigid torque tube in which a carbon-fibre drive shaft runs.

Lightweight construction: The entire bodyshell structure of the #mercedesamg GT is produced in an intelligent lightweight aluminium design. The aim here was to achieve optimum lateral and longitudinal dynamics and maximum steering precision by means of a very light yet extremely rigid body. Weighing in at only 231 kg, the aluminium spaceframe fits the bill here while also offering hallmark #mercedesbenz safety. The aluminium body and the use of carbon-fibre and composite components also help to reduce weight.

The tailgate of the Coupé is made of steel, since at a corresponding ratio of wall thickness to component cross-section a lower weight is attainable with this material than would apply to a comparable tailgate made of aluminium.

The boot lid on the Roadster is produced in SMC (Sheet Molding Compound) with carbon fibre. Advantages: lightweight, high strength and outstanding surface quality.

Aerodynamics: AIRPANEL active air management system (vertical louvres behind the front apron open and close in around one second) and extendable rear aerofoil improve aerodynamic balance and aerodynamic performance. #amggt R additionally with active aerodynamics profile in the underfloor and a fixed rear aerofoil with manually adjustable blade.

Suspension: The double wishbone concept provides the #mercedesamg GT family with excellent lateral dynamics and driving stability at high speeds. The long wheelbase ensures straight-line stability and low wheel load transfer, which markedly reduces the pitching tendency when accelerating and decelerating. The wide track reduces wheel load transfer from the inner to the outer wheel on bends. This provides the tyres with added grip. The large caster angle increases the negative camber in bends, thus enhancing tyre grip and stability when braking sharply.

Brakes: The AMG high-performance compound brake system offers excellent deceleration performance and precise brake control with large brake discs which are internally ventilated, grooved and perforated all round. The compound technology (AMG GT and #amggt Roadster: integral brake discs on rear axle) improves resistance to fading even under extreme conditions and reduces unsprung masses on the wheel.

Drive programs: The three pre-set drive programs "C", "S", "S+", and the individual driving program "I" enable a broad range of driving dynamics. The programs influence various factors, including throttle response, shifting and suspension. #amggt S, #amggt C, #amggt C Roadster and #amggt R offer superlative racetrack performance with the additional "RACE" program.

Exterior: The centrepiece of the vehicle's front section is the AMG Panamericana grille. Striking features are the long bonnet with its pronounced powerdomes, the wide front apron, the greenhouse, which has been moved far back, the large wheels and the broad tail end in fastback design.

Interior: The cockpit is dominated by the wing profile of the instrument panel support and the AMG DRIVE UNIT in the centre console. The latter incorporates the key AMG-specific controls in stylised V8 layout. The AMG sports seats and the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather feature as standard from the entry-level model up.
