(Ryton-on-Dunsmore, UK – 06 July, 2017) 2017 #jaguar Classic Challenge newcomers Graeme and James Dodd built on a strong start to their inaugural season in the five-race pre-1966 #jaguar championship with victory and fastest lap in their E-type at the latest Brands Hatch round.
The father-and-son duo finished in third place on their debut last time out at Donington Park and took a convincing win on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, lapping all cars up to third place during the 22-lap encounter.
Behind them on the track was Jamie Boot in his #jaguar E-type, while rounding off the podium in third was the #jaguar Classic Driver of the Day Carlos Michael, who after trying many different forms of #racing with different marques in the past, is enjoying the #jaguar Classic Challenge in his Class F (minimum 1100kg weight, steel monocoque, cast iron cylinder block and standard angle cylinder head) E-type.
The Honorary Award, which goes to the driver showing the biggest improvement on the day, went to Class A XK150 driver Marc Gordon.
I really enjoyed #racing here. The first two laps were quite difficult as I had to readjust myself to the car and track. The E-type is such an iconic car in which to win a race.
GRAEME DODDBRANDS HATCH RACE WINNERThe car was brilliant and went really well, I dialled in to it quickly and the traffic behaved itself when we came back through the field. It was a fantastic race.
JAMES DODDBRANDS HATCH RACE WINNERThe Brands Hatch round of the #jaguar Classic Challenge kicked-off a fantastic July for us, coming soon after we opened our new #jaguar Land Rover Classic Works facility in Coventry and setting us up nicely for round three of the championship at the #silverstone Classic later this month. It’s great to have two different winners from the opening two rounds. The competition is definitely hotting up for #silverstone, which is set to include the biggest #jaguar Classic Challenge grid of the year so far. We can’t wait.
TIM HANNIGDIRECTOR, #jaguar LAND ROVER CLASSICCompetitors in the #jaguar Classic Challenge will have an early evening qualifying session on Friday July 28 at #silverstone Classic to determine the starting line-up for a 40-minute race at 2pm on Sunday July 30.
Close to 50 FIA Appendix K-specification pre-1966 Jaguars are expected to take part, including a Coombs Mk2 from #jaguar Land Rover Classic's Legends Collection, with newly-appointed Chief Test Driver Andy Wallace at the wheel.
