Suzuki fights back in Germany to hold EWC lead
Defending World Champions #suzuki #endurance #racing Team continues to lead the 2017 #endurance World Championship by a single point after finishing second in the Slovakia Ring penultimate round.
The 15-time #endurance World Championship winners – #vincentphillipe, #etiennemasson and #alexcudlin – led the start of the eight-hour race aboard the GSX-R1000, but dropped back following some issues. However, the French team climbed back through the pack to claim the second step of the podium.
SERT completed 222 laps of the 5.9km circuit, one lap behind winners GMT94 Yamaha, who are now Suzuki’s main challengers in the series; just one point behind in the series heading into the final showdown at the 40th anniversary Suzuka 8-Hour race in Japan at the end of July.
For the 8 Hours of Slovakia, the #suzuki #endurance #racing Team was more an outsider team than a leader, but with the SERT spirit to never give up, the squad, managed by #dominiquehebrard until long-time team boss Dominique Meliand recovers, proved its determination.
Philippe made an amazing start and led for three laps. When it was Masson’s turn to take the handlebars, the #suzuki #1 was still in the game, dicing with the top teams. But because of the flat tyre, SERT lost some precious minutes and a few positions.
Lap after lap, the riders won-back positions and reached second position after a breath-taking end to the race.
Said Hébrard: “I am so happy! This result rewards all the team’s work and a few months in a difficult situation following the loss of #anthonydelhalle, and with team chief Dominique Meliand still in convalescence. We are working a lot at the workshop and during the races, all members are giving their best and everybody inside the SERT
team are all deserving this position!”
