The MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship heads to Misano Adriatico for the second haf of the season: Pirelli is Event Main Sponsor and announces its tyre options for this race

On Saturday afternoon and on the following Monday the Pirelli Riviera di Rimini Round will open the gates to motorcycling enthusiasts who are fans of SBK®  and the Milanese tyre brand, for the third round of the Pirelli SBK® Track Days initiative

Misano Adriatico (Italy), 12 June 2017- From 16 to 18 June 2017 the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli will host the seventh round of the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship. The second Italian round, after Imola, represents the turning point of the 2017 season of the production based Championship, which, this year consists of a total of 13 rounds.
Pirelli will be Event Main Sponsor of this important event which, on this occasion, is named the Pirelli Riviera di Rimini Round .

For both the WorldSBK and WorldSSP class, Pirelli will bring to Misano Adriatico a total of 4376 tyres and solutions already seen in action, and particularly popular with the riders in the previous rounds. In particular, in addition to the standard solutions, three development solutions will be available for the top class. At the front the V0952, one of the most used solutions in this year’s races, whereas for the rear Pirelli confirms the availability of the V0602 and V1199. Also in WorldSSP some development solutions will be available, in addition to the standard ones: the V1267 for the front and the V1201 for the rear.

The Italian circuit, in the Riviera Romagnola, will also frame the third seasonal edition of the Pirelli SBK® Track Days initiative, days on track dedicated to riders who are fond of the Milanese brand and SBK ® on some of the most fascinating tracks in the World. In the Misano Adriatico round, for the first time ever, riders will have the chance to take to the  track not only on the Monday following the race weekend, but also on the afternoon of Saturday 17, right after the race day. What better way to experience the emotions of the Superbike Championship than following I the wheeltracks of the champions. For additional information: www.pirelli.com/trackdays.

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, is dedicated to the memory of the famous Italian rider, at a track featuring 10 right hand turns and 6 left handers. Measuring an overall length of 4226 metres, with 1850 metres of straights, including the finishing straight of 510 meters. Designed in 1969, it opened its gates to sport activities in 1972. In 1993 the track was extended to 4060 metres and, from 2006, it went through some modernization works including the extension of the track to 4180 metres and changed the racing direction, which became clockwise. At the beginning of 2008 a new 250 metre long pit lane exit was built, requiring a modification of the “Variante del Rio”, and, afterwards, the track reached the current format.

In March 2015 the track was completely resurfaced with the laying of 53,000 square metres of asphalt, in addition to other changes such as modifying the ‘escape’ routes. This was done in compliance with the DroCAS™ safety calculations for better decelerating capacity while maintaining space for manoeuver in the event of an error. New curbs with embedded drainages and reprofiling of existing ones, the review of the system of drainage and surface profiles were revised. Two new mini circuits were also made, the Brutapela and the Acquedotto, introducing curves with original designs specially designed for safe riding and driving schools.

The asphalt, which was developed with a specific formula to combat the effects of salt and humidity, is definitely more aggressive and abrasive on the tyres than previously combined with high temperatures which might compromise a riders lines during the races. The track is a very sinuous one, the most challenging section is definitely the one after the fast “Curvone”. This comprises of a series of right-hand corners that require a high mechanical and thermal stress for tyres when the bike is leant over, on the leaning ‘shoulder’. On the other hand, the straights are quite short and do not allow high ‘tipping in’ speeds but require  different braking and acceleration points.

The solutions for WorldSBK and WorldSSP classes

For this round Pirelli decided to rely on solutions already well known by the riders, and which they have already successfully tried during other rounds of the current season, especially in Imola and in Donington.

For the WorldSBK class Pirelli brings six slick solutions, three for the front and three for the rear.
For the front, riders will have available the SC1 (soft) and SC2 (medium) standard solutions, together with a third option, the development SC1 V0952 solution. This  features the same compound as the standard SC1 but with different structural solutions, which have been the most used front solution in Race 2 both in Imola and Donington Park.
As for the rear, in addition to the standard soft SC0, the development V0602 solution, very popular with the riders in Race 1 in Imola and in Donington Park, will also be available. As a third option, especially for the first sessions or in case of low temperatures, the V1199 will also be available, an SC1 development solution with particular structural characteristics.

As for WorldSSP class, there is five dry solutions, three for the front and two for the rear. For the front, in addition to the standard SC1 and SC2, the V1267 development SC1 is also confirmed, featuring the same compound as the standard SC1 but with a different manufacturing process.
For the rear, the riders will have the chance to choose between the standard SC0 and the V1201 development SC1, (the development solution in medium compound) which made its debut in Motorland Aragon and brought to Assen and Imola. This last solution features the same compound as the standard SC1 but, compared to it, should be able to guarantee better mechanical resistance with low temperatures.
