An exciting start to the new Peugeot 308 racing cup at Nogaro, France
NOGARO (April 16-17): The inaugural round of the PEUGEOT 308 #racing Cup, PEUGEOT SPORT’s new single-make #racing series which formed part of the SROorganised Championnat de France des Circuits programme at the 50th anniversary Coupes de Pâques Easter-weekend meeting at Nogaro, was a resounding success. The fastest drivers in the PEUGEOT 308 #racing Cup provided eloquent evidence of the new one-make competition’s level by posting lap times that would have earned them a mid-grid position in GT4. The opening clash of PEUGEOT SPORT’s new series attracted an entry of 17 drivers run by six different teams at Nogaro’s traditional Easter-weekend meeting, and the standard of performance, reliability and driving enjoyment lived up every bit to expectations! Julien BRICHÉ (JSB Compétition) emerged as the man to beat at the competition’s opener thanks to back-to-back victories. Teddy CLAIRET (Pussier Automobiles by Clairet Sport) was twice the best-placed Junior and he even added second overall to his tally in the first race, while Spaniard Rafael VILLANUEVA (Milan Compétition) collected both wins in the Gentleman Drivers’ class. QUOTE, UNQUOTE… Laurent GUYOT (Customer Competition Programme Manager, PEUGEOT SPORT): “There was a grid of 17 cars for this weekend’s two races and all 17 reached the finish! That’s exactly what our target was and we are delighted with the result of the hard work that went into the new PEUGEOT 308 #racing Cup. Hats off to Julien BRICHÉ who had the edge over his rivals, and we are also thrilled with the level of our new series which I think will reveal some talented young drivers. The six fastest cars were blanketed by just seven-tenths of a second in the first qualifying session, and that’s highly promising for the rest of the season.” Julien BRICHÉ (winner of the two 308 #racing Cup races): “I’m delighted to have topped both qualifying sessions. I got away to two poor starts, but I managed to recover the lead both times. Tyre management was important in order to benefit from good traction over the full duration of each race. We used the basic setup which was recommended when we took delivery of the car and it worked very well.”
