Nissan Group retains top spot for full-line manufacturer in EPA's annual Fuel Economy Review for third consecutive year

Only automaker among top seven manufacturers on the list to offer a full vehicle lineup, including mid and full-size trucks and SUVs

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nissan Group is the most fuel efficient full-line automaker in the United States for the third year running, according to the recently released 2016 Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) "CO2 and Fuel Economy Trends" Report. Nissan's fleet-wide fuel economy rating of 28.3 adjusted combined mpg was highest among all full-line automakers in the annual report, which is the authoritative reference on new light-duty vehicle carbon dioxide emissions, fuel economy and powertrain technology trends in the United States.

Nissan's 28.3 combined adjusted mpg rating, based on 2015 model-year #nissan and Infiniti vehicles, marks a 1.3 combined adjusted mpg improvement over 2014 model-year #nissan and Infiniti vehicles, the second largest year-over-year gain in the industry. The 28.3 combined adjusted mpg mark moves #nissan up one position on the list this year to the third place spot overall.

As a full-line automobile manufacturer, #nissan sells passenger cars, SUVs, CUVs, mid-size and full-size pickup trucks, compact and full-size vans, vehicles with V-8 engines, a 600-horsepower supercar and a zero-emissions plug-in battery electric vehicle – a broad range of products to meet consumer needs across the full spectrum of product segments.

"As consumers demand more fuel efficient options, #nissan continues to incorporate engineering advancements such as reduced powertrain friction, improved aerodynamics and the use of efficient Xtronic transmissions in each new model," said Michael Bunce, vice president, Product Planning, #nissan North America. "Evolving industry regulations continue to challenge us to provide the safest, most efficient products to our customers, and this distinction reaffirms the exemplary effort our engineers and designers have taken to ensure continuous vehicle improvements and owner satisfaction."

This year's improvement came in part due to the introduction of the third-generation #nissan Murano for the 2015 model year. #nissan Murano boasts an ultra-low, sports-car-like 0.31 coefficient of drag, lower curb weight than the previous generation and efficiency improvements to its powertrain. #nissan also employs an engineering lightweight strategy to all new models to significantly reduce vehicle curb weight – a key factor to improving fleet fuel economy.

Nissan expects continued improvements in future model years, with next year's report including the redesigned 2016 Maxima and all-new 2016 TITAN full-size pickup truck for the first time. Maxima and TITAN both feature improved efficiency without compromise to the customer.
